Using POP3 to pull messages into gmail instead of using forwarders Print

Many rely on forwarders to relay messages to their Gmail accounts although we do not recommend relying on forwarders to third party services.  We do scan all messages leaving our network for SPAM and other issues and this can result in a message not forwarding out.

What we recommend, to avoid this issue, is to configure Gmail to check your messages in your inbox on our services via POP3.

The first thing you will need for this is to have created the email account locally.  While you can create a forwarder without the email account itself existing for you to check the messages via POP3 you will have to create the email account in your cPanel under "Email Accounts".  Do make sure to note the password used when creating the account, otherwise you can reset the password in the same place as you added it.

Once the account exists on our server, you can get the details you will need for Gmail's POP3 pull in your cPanel -> Email Accounts under "Connect Devices":

Inside of the "Connect Devices" page you will see the IMAP/POP3 details under "Mail Client Manual Settings" like so:

Once you have created the email account and noted these details, you can then log into your Gmail account to start the process of setting it up to check your email from us via POP3.

In your Gmail interface click on the settings button [a small gear in the upper right] and then "See all settings":

Once you have the settings opened you will click the header "Accounts and Import" and then "Add a mail account" under "Check mail from other accounts":

A yellow box will pop up where you will enter your email address with us that you want pulled into Gmail. Enter your actual email address and not "you@yourdomain.com":

After you enter your email address you will click "Next" on the next page.

On the next page is where you will enter your email account details with us, including username, password, server hostname, port, etc.  You will want to make sure that the port is 995 and that you check the "Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail."

Additionally you can check the box for "Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server." if you want them to stay in your inbox with us as well as being copied to Gmail, but this is optional.  Once the details have been entered click "Add Account".

You will receive confirmation that the account has been added so long as you entered all of the correct details.  It will give you the option to be able to send using your email address with us via Google as well which you can do if you wish.

If you do choose to allow Gmail to send from your email address you will want to enter your name on the next page and then the same details for SMTP as you used for POP3 pull:

Once that is done you will receive a confirmation message to your inbox to confirm this, and once that link is clicked you are all done.
